BoldBody's 2019 Picks For Summer Reading & Listening

BoldBody's 2019 Picks For Summer Reading & Listening

Picture this: You wake up on a Saturday morning to bright blue skies and a warm, golden sun. Your schedule is empty (finally), and your phone is on silent. You slip into your favorite pair of Bold Body leggings and head outside to lounge on your comfiest chair with a good book and no agenda.

Now that’s the kind of summer day we dig, and it’s exactly where you can find us on lazy, warm weekends. Care to join?

Here’s what we’ll be reading (and listening to!) in 2019.

    Daring Greatly by Brené Brown

Who it’s for: The Undercover Bold Babe

Why we love it: Brené dives deep into the topic of vulnerability, and how a simple change in perspective can shift our entire lives. If instead of looking at vulnerability as a weakness, we think of it as a measure of courage, we’re more able to attack the things that really matter: positive relationships, body confidence, being bold, and loving every minute of it.

The Universe Has Your Back by Gabrielle Bernstein

Who it’s for: The Busy Bee

Why we love it: This book is all about turning your fear into faith and going for it! Whatever “it” is for you. Through candid storytelling and real-life examples, Gabrielle helps readers learn to go with the flow and find peace in the moment—something we all could use a little more of.

When Life Gives You Lululemons by Lauren Weisberger

Who it’s for: The Big City Dreamer

Why we love it: Ever wonder what it’s like to work alongside superstars and represent the biggest names in Hollywood? Unfortunately, for Emily (the main character), it’s not all glitz and glamour. Read as she tries to pick up her career after it all dramatically falls apart. One-part drama, one-part girl power—we dig it.

City of Girls by Elizabeth Gilbert

    Who it’s for: The Romantic

Why we love it: From the same author as the astoundingly brilliant book Eat, Pray, Love, comes this honest look at love, female promiscuity, and regret. Told from the point-of-view of an 89-year-old looking back on her younger days, comes a powerful message about following your heart and learning from your mistakes. Settle in and grab some snacks—you won’t be putting this one down.

Natalie Tan’s Book of Luck and Fortune

    Who it’s for: The Foodie

Why we love it: Family, food, drama, and love—need we say more? The perfect read for beach days or road trips, this book will have you running to your kitchen with recipes in tow and dreaming of foodie days in San Francisco. Eat prior to reading—you’ve been warned.

    Others we love:

You’d Be Mine by Erin Hahn

    #GirlBoss by Sophia Amoruso

You Do You by Sarah Knight

My Year with Eleanor: A Memoir by Noelle Hancock

Half Broke Horses: A True-Life Novel by Jeannette Walls

If podcasts are more your thing, we’ve got your ears covered too. Plug into one of our favorites while sipping an ice-cold beverage for a relaxing afternoon.

    How I Built This

    Who it’s for: The Entrepreneur

Why we love it: Full of stories from some of the best-known companies, How I Built This is like a business-coach in your ears. Weaving a narrative around entrepreneurship, innovators, and risk-takers, this entertaining and informative podcast will inspire you to follow your calling and build your dream life.

    Crime Junkie

Who it’s for: The Self-Proclaimed Detective

Why we love it: Who doesn’t love a good true crime story? Told by a duo of two bad-ass women, these real-life stories will have you saying, “What the fudge?” and sleeping with the lights on. But really—carve out an entire weekend—you’ll binge the whole thing.

    Girl Boss

Who it’s for: The Girl Boss (obviously!)

Why we love it: Every episode is made up of hilarious, honest, and useful conversations with trailblazing women taking their lives into their own hands. A real, fresh take on what it means to be a Girl Boss (and Bold Babe!) in today’s world.

    RISE Together

    Who it’s for: Love Birds

Why we love it: Relationships are hard! Like, really really hard. It’s nice to hear tangible advice and answers to tough questions that you might be afraid to ask. Hosted by a husband and wife duo, RISE Together takes an honest look at the toughest parts of love—and how you can build something that lasts.

    Hey, girl

    Who it’s for: All Women

Why we love it: Women are stronger together—and this podcast brings a bunch of inspirational babes together to talk candidly and intimately about their lives. From mental health to fitness to running a business, Hey, girl covers it all.

    Others we love:

    2 Dope Queens

    Call Your Girlfriend

    BoldBabes Ultimate 2019 Bucket List

    BoldBabes Ultimate 2019 Bucket List

2019 is your year to THRIVE. Be bold. Take leaps. Network. Grow. And do all the things.

That’s why we created the BoldBabe’s Bucket List for a killer year—and we can’t wait to start ticking things off with you.

    Visit Another Country

Exploring new corners of the world is the ultimate way to add adventure and excitement to your life. There are endless places calling your name and basically begging you to bring your sparkle on over.

Our top picks: Australia, Iceland, and Spain. Tag us in all your travel pics so we can live vicariously through you (@boldbodyapparel), or better yet, bring us along.

    Book a Girl’s Trip

Grab your gals and plan a spontaneous trip somewhere new. It doesn’t have to be extravagant—heck, it can be right down the road. If you’ve got your favorite girls, a party playlist, and the open road, you’re all set! A few ideas: winery and brewery tours, hiking a national park, lazy sun-soaked beach week, or a weekend on the slopes. You’ll be surprised how refreshed and invigorated you feel after spending a few days laughing, jamming, and eating all the foods with your favorite people.

    Volunteer More

Science shows that when we give back, we actually boost our own happiness in the process. Helping others + adding sunshine to your own life = win all around. Plus, when you put good energy out into the world it’s bound to find its way back to you. There are tons of ways to impact your community, but if you’re not sure where to start, check out VolunteerMatch.

    Run a 10k

Running a race is a great way to socialize, get involved, and sneak some exercise in at the same time. If you’re not much of a runner, maybe start with a 5k or see if there’s a bike race in town. The cool thing about races is that there’s people from all skill levels and walks of life—which means no matter how fast you trot, you’ll fit right in. This article will help you get started.

    Spa Day with Mom

If we could buy our moms the world, we would. But apparently it’s not for sale? So we’ll stick with a relaxing spa day on our dime. Carve out an entire afternoon and treat your mom to the pampering experience she deserves: mani, pedi, facial, massage, etc.

Pro tip: check GroupOn before you go—they have tons of great deals! And if a spa day isn’t in your budget, grab some supplies from the store and set up an at-home spa—don’t forget the candles and relaxing music.

    Skinny Dip

Spontaneity keeps life fun! Get a little crazy and go for a dip—sans swimsuit—in the nearest clean and private body of water you can find. Unless you’re feeling extra spicy…then just head to whatever lake/pond/puddle you can find. Trust us, you’ll feel wild, free, and like you can take on the world (speaking from experience).

PS: be sure to have a towel and clothes nearby!

    Wear Something Crazy

Your clothes are a statement of who you are and how you feel. Shake things up in 2019 and let the world know you’re bold, badass, and not to be overlooked by wearing something totally off-brand and vibrant like these starry night leggings or this pink piña party dress. Make a statement and wear it with pride girlfriend.

Start (and keep) A Gratitude Journal

We’re firm believers that a great life starts with an ample amount of gratitude, and what better way to give off all the good vibes than with a gratitude journal? It’s easy: each morning while enjoying your favorite mug of tea or coffee, simply write down 3 things you’re grateful for. This sets you up for a positive day and opens your heart to the abundance that’s coming your way. The key is sticking to it! Make it part of your morning or nightly routine and we promise you’ll see a positive shift in your life.

Once you’ve ticked these bucket list items off, give some of these a go:

    • Skydive or bungy jump
    • Make peace with your body and show it all the love
    • Make a 3-course meal with all your besties (don’t forget the wine)
    • Take a public speaking class
    • Learn a new language
    • Dance under the Northern Lights
    • Adopt a shelter pet (and send us pics)

Let’s make 2019 the boldest, best year yet.

Your Vibe Attracts Your Tribe: How To Find Your People

Your Vibe Attracts Your Tribe: How To Find Your People

We've all heard it - Your vibe attracts your tribe. Meaning that the energy you put out in the world directly reflects on the energies you receive, and that you are open to receiving.

Let's get real. Can you think of a time when you've spent time with a friend, or talked to someone so frequently that you started to pick up on their mannerisms and sayings? It's probably safe to say that we all have at one point, as us humans are programmed to pick up on the energies around us - be it negative or positive.

You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with. Think about this. Who do you spend the most time with? Do they always find the good in situations, or do they dwell on the negatives? If you answered with the latter, then it might be a good time to do a self check to make sure that the people you're surrounding yourself with are lifting you up and nurturing positivity rather than bringing you down and hindering your growth.

Ok, that's great and all, but now what? Everyone's tribe will be different, and that's what makes life and our relationships so wonderful. So how do you identify and attract the right tribe for you?

    Start with Yourself

You are so uniquely awesome, so identify what's holding you back from being the best version of yourself.

We challenge you to stand in front of the mirror every morning and identify one thing you love about yourself. This can be physical, emotional or mental, and as simple as loving your smile. Say it OUT LOUD and truly believe it. When you focus on the positives and what you love about yourself, the negatives take their place in the bleachers.

    Show Gratitude

It's amazing what and who can come into your life when you open up your heart and are truly grateful for everything that you have - big or small.

We love to start each day with a grateful heart. When you wake up each morning, write down a few things that you're grateful for in life. If you need a guide, we love this Gratitude Journal that can help hold you accountable every day.

Need something simple to start? How about being grateful that you are able to read this. Yup, it's really that simple.

Get Out Of Your Damn Comfort Zone

You can't expect change when you don't actively change something. There is something so gratifying about doing something that scares the sh*t out of you (and doing it like the bada** you are). You never know who will be there and if they might be the perfect fit for your tribe.

Go ahead and sign up for a dance class, take on a side hustle, wear bold clothes that elicit happiness, try a new cuisine. Every little bit counts.

Be The First To Reach Out

If you met someone with good vibes, don't be afraid to reach out. You never know when someone is hoping to meet you just as much as you're hoping to meet them.  (Did we mention that mid-day coffee dates with the girls are simply the best)

    Be Genuine and Listen

Check in on your people. Make sure they're OK. Ask them questions and really listen. Don't just hear, but actually listen. What are they telling you, how can you help them be a better version of themselves? There's an indescribable feeling of happiness when you help others simply out of the kindness of your heart. Human beings crave genuine and real relationships, so any relationship that's not real simply isn't worth your energy.

When you put our positivity into the world, it's nearly impossible to not get it in return. Misery loves company, so don't give the universe a reason to create more negativity.

March is all about women and we'll be the first to say that we love it #WhoRunTheWorld. We encourage you to you focus on loving yourself, loving your people and all that you are blessed with in this crazy thing we call life. Get out there, BE BOLD and attract your tribe, babe.

6 Date Ideas For Your Next Girls Night Out

6 Date Ideas For Your Next Girls Night Out

Gal pals are worth celebrating all the time. But since we’re heading into March, aka Women’s History Month, we thought what better time to share some of our favorite Girl’s Night (or day) Date Ideas?

Saturdays might be “for the boys,” but that’s only because the girls are busy…

    Bottomless Brunches

There’s no time like brunch-time. Breakfast food + your favorite girls + bottomless bubbly = perfection. Use sites like Zagat to find the best brunch spots in your city and get sippin’. Our best advice? Monthly brunch dates. Mark them on your calendar and clear your schedule—you’ve got pancakes to eat.

    Sweat Sesh

Why pick between working out and hanging out when you can do both? Grab your gal pals and hit a new workout class together (use classpass to save cash). Not only are you showing your bodies some love, but you’re motivating each other and probably getting in a good laugh—try watching your best friend shake it in Zumba without giggling.

    Baking Competition

Head to the grocery store and buy all the ingredients for your favorite cakes—it’s competition time. Except the only competition is who can dig their fork in first. Sometimes all we need is to indulge shamelessly in our favorite desserts surrounded by our best friends while we gab about the latest celebrity gossip.

    Marathon Time

Movie marathon that is… Call your favorite girls over and have them bring 3 things: snack foods, wine, and their coziest pair of leggings. Clear the couch and flip on Netflix (or Hulu, no judgement here), rip open the snacks, pop the cork, and snuggle up—you’re not leaving the couch until this marathon is properly run (we mean watched…)

    Dream Team

Remember when “dream boards” were the thing? You’d cut pictures out of magazines and paste sayings like “Dream Big!” onto poster boards then hang them on your wall for motivation? This is the adult version of that (though we still love dream boards!) Get your crew together and share your latest projects and biggest dreams. Bounce ideas off of each other and motivate one another. Bonus points if you pick accountability partners and vow to stand by until every last dream is reached.

    Road Trip

Sometimes making time for travel can be tough—adults have to work unfortunately, ugh. But that doesn’t mean you can’t hop in the car for an impromptu road trip to a nearby town. A quick Google search should give you an idea of where to go and sites like Airbnb can help with the details. Our favorite spots for Boston-babes? Cape Cod and Kennebunkport. Pssst: let us know when you go! We’re hopping in.

Great friendships literally make you healthier and help you live longer—so any excuse to get together with the girls is good enough for us. Give these Girl’s Night Date Ideas a go and don’t forget to snap some pics and tag us on Instagram! (And send us an invite if you feel inclined).

Meet BoldBody & Why We're Creating A Brand That's All About Self Love

Meet BoldBody & Why We're Creating A Brand That's All About Self Love

    What's going on #BoldFam,

Becky here from BoldBody. I wanted to take a minute to tell you what we're all about, and why we're creating a brand centered around loving your damn self.

Ok so, I'll get right into it. My team and I created BoldBody around the mission to live life out loud and in your own skin. We believe in empowerment through individuality. We believe in loving yourself. We believe in being a little (or a lotta) weird. All of our clothes are designed with these beliefs in mind and want our BoldFam to use them as blank canvas to express themselves. We are here to help you stand out from the status quo and #bebold.

At BoldBody, we aren’t afraid to push boundaries with our designs and prints and find that people crave fun designs and standing out. On top of that, we work hard to maintain price points that are affordable, while maintaining quality that we are proud to stand behind. I am a firm believer that feeling good and looking good shouldn’t have to break the bank. We set out to make quality athletic apparel affordable and accessible to a wide variety of people. We want everyone to feel included and able to live Boldly.

I’ve never been one to blend in. I am loud and simply put, I love people and finding what makes them happy. I love that BoldBody has the ability to make someone’s day simply by proving that life doesn’t have to be taken so seriously. There’s no better feeling of gratification than to see the smiles that our clothes put on peoples faces – be it strangers, friends or acquaintances. I am proud that we stand strongly behind our core beliefs and make each of our products with them in mind. Simply put, if the print doesn’t make us smile, it’s not going into our store.

I dare you to be different, I encourage you to get comfortable being uncomfortable, and fall in love with standing out. You are limited edition and that, my friends, is a beautiful thing.

    #BeBold; Love Your Body,

    Founder of BoldBody Apparel
